Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic Surgery

Orthognathic surgery, also known as corrective jaw surgery, is a procedure designed to address various conditions related to the jaw and lower face.

Purpose and Conditions Treated:

  • Malocclusion: Problems with how the teeth fit together that can’t be easily resolved with braces.
  • Facial Imbalances: Correcting asymmetries, disharmonies, and malproportions to enhance facial aesthetics and self-esteem.
  • Airway Issues: Addressing sleep apnoea and other breathing-related problems.
  • TMJ Disorders: Relieving pain caused by temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues.
  • Facial Birth Defects or Injuries: Repairing facial trauma or congenital anomalies.
  • Obstructive Sleep Apnoea: Improving breathing during sleep.

Orthognathic surgery is often performed in collaboration with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and the orthodontist.
